The Blue Jays quickly bounced back to true form after Friday’s explosive 56-22 win against Olathe West. The Blue Jays offense was running on all cylinders in the first half with a total of 49 points in the half, a season high.

The game started out with a bang when freshman running back Russell Wilkey scored a 38 yard touchdown run. Minutes later, Wilkey had a 78 yard touchdown to give Junction City a quick 14-7 lead. The offense showed their dominance on the ground as well as the freshman showing his growth and vision as a runner.

The defense proved themselves as a critical component to the team’s success, recovering from last week’s blowout against Manhattan.

The defense had three total turnovers in the first half, two fumble recoveries and an interception that went for touchdowns. Senior Kenson Henderson stripped an Olathe West player and then recovered the fumble to take it for a touchdown. Senior Lucio Norris intercepted Olathe West’s quarterback and ran the ball back for a 62 yard pick six.

The Blue Jays look to end the regular season flying high on October 20th, 2017 against the Topeka Seamen Vikings. The game will be Junction City’s homecoming game which will include senior night and a J-Stepper Dance Team reunion.
