BREAKING: Individual Attempts To Bring Concealed Handgun Into FSA

On Monday, October 16th  an individual attempted to bring a concealed handugn onto the Freshman Success Academy campus sometime during the morning hours. At no point was safety at risk.

According to a statement released by FSA principal Jeff Tanner, the individual was stopped in the main office as a routine part of the school’s security protocol.

According to Tanner’s statement, the individual complied with requests to cooperate and at no time threatened students or staff. Additionally, there were no threats made on the school.

“We hold student safety with the utmost importance and our staff are committed to providing a safe learning environment,” Tanner stated.

The Junction City Police Department was contacted to assist in the matter and because the issue has been referred to police, the school district cannot release specific details.

Principal Melissa Sharp and School Resource Officer Edgar Torres declined to comment.

USD 475 Executive Director of Communications, Matthew Droge, could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
